About The Kagugu Teacher Training Program

In June and July of 2008, the International Education Exchange (IEE) began the Teacher Training Program (TTP) by sending a team of 12 volunteers to its flagship school, the Kagugu Primary School, in Kigali, Rwanda.

Since then IEE has created four initiatives including TTP, Infrastructure Assessment, Classroom Connect, and Education through Sports. We are working hard on these projects with the help and support of the Ministry of Education.

Currently we are working on the development of the TTP. In February 2009 we began weekly workshops, which have trained 130 teachers from six schools across three districts in learner-centered teaching methodologies through English immersion classes. We are now expanding our efforts to include lesson models and one-on-one feedback between trainers and individual teachers. In July 2009 we will work with One Laptop Per Child to pilot ICT integration into our training curriculum.

Follow our blog to watch our programs develop. We will continue working with our partner schools as well as the Ministry of Education with the overall goal of improving the quality of primary education in Rwanda.
